Laurea presso l'Università di Genova con una
tesi riguardante il problema dell'influenza della regolarità
strutturale degli edifici sulla loro resistenza sismica. Relatore Prof.
A. Corsanego.

| 1984-1989 |
Nel 1984 ha iniziato
la sua attività presso D'Appolonia S.p.A. nel campo del
monitoraggio ambientale tramite tecniche computerizzate. Durante la
sua esperienza lavorativa si è occupato altresì di
problemi relativi a studi di stress analysis su componenti di
impianti nucleari, analisi strutturali di manufatti in cemento armato
per opere marittime e studi idrogeologici tramite modelli ad elementi
finiti. Si è occupato inoltre dello sviluppo di sistemi
esperti volti al monitoraggio geotecnico ed ambientale di siti di
centrali nucleari. I sistemi esperti nel campo dell'ingegneria
civile ed, in generale, l'intelligenza artificiale sono diventati in
seguito uno dei suoi campi di principale interesse. |
| 1990-1991 |
Nel 1990 ha completato
i suoi studi tramite il conseguimento del Master of Science in
Ingegneria Civile presso la Carnegie Mellon University a Pittsburgh
(Pennsylvania). In particolare ha studiato applicazioni
dell’informatica quali l'intelligenza artificiale nel campo
dell'ingegneria civile ed ha svolto attività di ricerca presso
il Field Robotic Center di Carnegie Mellon. L'attività di
ricerca svolta presso il Field Robotic Center di Carnegie Mellon
è
stata rivolta principalmente verso le tecniche computerizzate di
image processing e visione artificiale volte all'estrazione
automatica di informazioni significative da immagini del sottosuolo
ottenute tramite georadar. Si è occupato inoltre dello
sviluppo di software per il trattamento di immagini aeree del
territorio. |
| 1992-1998 |
Project Manager a
D'Appolonia S.p.A. Si è occupato di vari progetti di ricerca
sponsorizzati dalla Comunità Europea per lo sviluppo di
tecniche computerizzate per la gestione del rischio. La sua
attività
in questo periodo è stata particolarmente rivolta ad
applicazioni di sistemi esperti per la progettazione e la gestione di
sistemi complessi. Sistemi esperti sono stati progettati ed
implementati sotto la sua supervisione per la progettazione
automatizzata di strutture relativamente agli aspetti geotecnici
(caratterizzazione del suolo e progetto di fondazioni). Più
recentemente le sue attività di ricerca hanno riguardato le
tecniche di "product and process modeling" nell’attività
di progettazione di opere civili. In particolare ha sviluppato
modelli di simulazione delle attività di costruzione. |
