User's Guide


The AESP software contained in the portal is composed by a Java Applet that can be executed within any browser. In order to use it is necessary to register (for free) or insert username and password in the proper boxes for an already registered user.  The graphical user interface is compose by a number of Panes and each of then is dedicated to a specific aspect of the problem. The user will simply browse the panes (from left to right) and will introduce the requested information in each pane relative to geographical position, structure and soil.  In the "Analysis" pane the analysis will be executed and the in the "Results" pane the analysis results will be provided in detail.  Finally in the "Offer" pane it is possible to request an offer for off-line specialized consulting services relative to the analysis performed.  In the following each pane is described in detail.



The Panes available to the users are the following:



Location: Contains the map of the (Italian) territory subdivided in provinces and visualized through a GIS system.   It is possible to select the geographical co-ordinates of the point where the analysis will be performed by simply clicking on it.  Moreover it is possible to zoom over specific areas, pan, and visualize the seismic category of  a point by simply moving the mouse on the map.






Structure: Contains the information to be introduced into the system and relative to the structure (structure type, building age etc.).  The right side explains the meaning of the parameters to be introduced.  More detailed information about the meaning of such parameters can be found in another page.






Site (1 of 2): Contains the information to be introduced into the system and relative to the soil (geology, morphology etc.). The left side explains the meaning of the parameters to be introduced.  More detailed information about the meaning of such parameters can be found in another page.






Site (2 of 2): Contains further information to be introduced into the system and relative to the soil (bedrock depth, shear wave velocity etc.). The input data to be introduced through this pane pertains to the Advanced Method).  The left side explains the meaning of the parameters to be introduced.  More detailed information about the meaning of such parameters can be found in another page.






Analysis: In this page the analysis will be executed.  By pushing the  "Run" button the system will query the central hazard database containing the hazard curves and will perform further elaborations providing at the end a very schematic result that will be possible to visualize in detail by moving to the next pane "Results";






Results: Allows to visualize the results of the performed analysis. Specific recommendations are provided depending on the results obtained.






Offer: Allow to request an offer for off-line consulting services relative to the analysis performed on-line. It is possible to specify the requested service as well as the data provided by the user.  An email message will be sent to the user containing all the requested information.
